5 CREATORS meet J.PRESS ORIGINALS Ⅰ
渡辺俊美さんのスタイルと言えばジャケットにハットにアイウェアを連想させるが、やはりJプレスの新作もさながら長年着てきた私服のようにマッチした。
「Jプレスは、私の中ではアメリカとイギリスの中間辺り、それを、少し日本寄りにしたイメージがありますね。18歳の頃、東京に出てきて最初に買ったシャツがJプレスのダンガリーシャツでした。正装として着るのはでなく普段からカジュアルに着たくて。ファッションに目覚め始めた頃からJプレスが私の周りにいたんですよ。今でもアメリカントラッドの代表ブランドとして、その定番を着崩すという考えで捉えていますね」。
では、今体現したいファッションとは何か。
「時代とは全然そぐわないけど、自分が1 番好きなのは40'sの洋服なんですよ。でも自分の周りの風景とは程遠い感じもするので、なかなか難しい気がしますけどね。最近はきちんとトラッドなものを着こなしたくて、1 つずつまた探し集めているところです。例えば子供の授業参観なんかにはビシっと決めていきたいと思いますよ。お父さんというより、カッコいいおじいちゃんだと思われるようになりたい、それが目標ですね」。
そんな渡辺さんは今、自身が所属するバンド、TOKYO No.1 SOUL SETの制作期間にある。「リリースするのはまだ先なんですが、すでに衣装をどうするかを考えているんですよ。
紺ブレにホワイトジーンズ、カンカン帽だったり。スタイル・カウンシルみたいな感じを連想していて。そこにバンドのエンブレムを刺繍してカスタムしたいな、なんて考えているんですよ。服からも音楽が出るものですからね。古き良き、不良オジさんが聴いていた音楽をやりたいな、と」。
この日、撮影したのは渡辺さんが通う美容室、LUZ HAIR。

The image that I get when I think of Toshimi Watanabe's style is of a hat and eyewear together with a jacket, but I think that the new work of J.PRESS suits his own personal style of clothes that he has worn for many years. "For me, J.PRESS is somewhere in the middle between the United States and Britain and has the image of having been brought a little closer to Japan. At the age of 18, the first shirt I bought in Tokyo was a J.PRESS dungaree shirt. I did not want to wear their clothes as formal wear but rather as casual clothes that I usually wear. J.PRESS has been around me ever since I first started waking up to fashion. Even now, as a representative brand of American Trad, it captures the idea of dressing down that classic look." So what is the fashion you want to embody now? "I do not match the times at all, but the era I like most is the clothes of the 40's. However, I feel that this is difficult because it is so far from the scenes that I see around me now. Recently, I feel I want to dress well in the Trad style so I have been looking for and collecting ideas one at a time. For example, I would like to decide on something sharp for observation day at a child's class. I would like to be considered a stylish and good-looking grandpa rather than a father. And that is the goal." Mr. Watanabe is currently working on the production of music for TOKYO No. 1 SOUL SET, a band to which he belongs. "Although the music has not been released yet, we are already thinking about what to do regarding costumes. Navy blue blazers and white jeans with boater hats. We are thinking of an image something like Style Council. And I'm thinking about embroidering emblems on these items and customizing them, because music comes from clothes, as well. I want to make music like in the good old days, the kind of music that the bad boys who are now middle aged used to listen to." On this day, the shooting location was the hairdressing salon LUZ HAIR which Mr. Watanabe goes to.
